Currently, most older adults do not expect to receive help from stepchildren in the future.
This has changed over time, especially in stepfamilies, where older adults are less likely to receive help from biological family members.
Studies have shown that stepfamilies with more family members are more likely to receive help from biological family members.
To address this issue, it may be helpful to include stepfamilies in the Family Leave Act.
Some family leave laws don’t include stepchildren
The federal Family Medical Leave Act includes stepchildren in the definition of sons and daughters,
but some 13 states that have enacted family leave laws do not include stepchildren.
This policy can make it difficult for stepchildren to access different benefits than biological children to provide elder care.
Elderly care robotics market with high upfront costs
The problem with the elderly care robot market is that the initial investment cost is high,
making it difficult for poorer countries to adopt robots. Also, because they are attached to vulnerable groups such as the elderly,
their safety needs to be verified, which has limited their acceptance so far. Nevertheless,
with rapid urbanization and population growth, the growth of elderly care robots is inevitable,
and in Europe, many products have already been launched and companies are trying new strategies.
