As the elderly population has increased in recent years, the issue of elder abuse has also increased and become a hot topic.
Elder abuse can be physical or emotional and often starts with neglect,
which is why the United Nations has designated 15 June as World Elder Abuse Day to raise awareness of the issue.
Singapore Integrated Care Agency launches programme for seniors
The chairman of Singapore’s Integrated Care Agency said that through the Integrated Care Agency,
they aim to help the elderly improve their quality of life and maintain their health.
It also works with social partners to provide services for the elderly so that they can better support them.
The agency has launched the Silver Guardian programme, which aims to place 2,400 volunteers in senior centres across the country.

Under the programme, volunteers are trained on how to interact with and help the elderly and then placed in senior centres.
Since the programme began, Singapore has seen significant indicators of a decrease in elder abuse rates.
